This would be especially useful for the Hofstadters, whose pregnancy arc felt rushed and unearned. With their main arc already finished in season 12, the potential fresh year would have more time to develop the other characters' arcs.
It's understandable that CBS wanted to build on Amy and Sheldon's Nobel bid since much of the finale was about it, but the plot dragged and had unnecessary twists and turns. If The Big Bang Theory season 13 happened, the sitcom could've evenly spread out the focus of its narrative.
